Chess Academy for Kids won’t checkmate your children

Well, it will, obviously – it’s an app for teaching them chess after all – but what we mean is that it won’t leave them feeling frustrated and stupid. Which is always nice.

Chess Academy for Kids is a new iOS app that aims to teach children chess over 140 tutorials and challenges, covering the basic rules and strategies.

It’s aimed at children aged eight and up to use by themselves, although its App Store listing suggests that even five year-olds can get something out of it if helped by a parent.

It looks very smart too, with crisp graphics and text. Expect to pay £2.99, and it’s Universal so runs across iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
