These are good times for parents with iPads and a yen for lovely visuals. There are lots of children’s book-apps coming out showcasing the creativity of animators and illustrators. Two more hit the App Store today.
Flip: Interactive Storybook focuses on a child called Emma, who goes on “an enchanting life journey” to find happiness. The app features genuinely whizzy-looking 3D animation, bolstered by interactivity and an original score.
According to its App Store listing, its creator is Jill Hackett – “an incredible young artist, animator and storyteller” – and this is her first book-app. We hope there are some more coming in the future, on this evidence.
Flip: Interactive Storybook costs £4.99 on the App Store, and is a Universal app, so it’ll work on your iPhone and/or iPod touch as well as iPad.
Also new: The Perfect Shape, which is an iPad-only book-app from PipeDreamLabs. It costs £1.99 on the App Store, and stars a boy named Curiosity, who decides to “take matters in his own hands and went about trying to redesign the world to make it a better place and rid it of all the wrongs”.
There are 30 pages, and some startlingly attractive visuals to look at along the way. Both apps have that spark of magic that we’re looking for in digital stories for our children, so they’re well worth a look.
