Dr. Seuss’ Horton returns to hatch an egg on iOS

Developer Oceanhouse Media has been busily turning the entire Dr. Seuss back catalogue into book-apps over the last couple of years.

Horton Hatches the Egg is the latest to get the treatment, following a previous release for Horton Hears a Who!

Unfamiliar with the story? It sees elephant Horton looking after an egg for his birdy mate Maysie, protecting it through a series of mishaps including being captured by hunters and getting stuck in a circus. And when Maysie turns up again demanding the egg back, things don’t quite turn out as she expects – in a good way for Horton.

As ever with Dr. Seuss, the rhymes and wordplay are marvellous. Like Oceanhouse’s previous ‘omBooks’, this has voice narration and sound effects, as well as features designed for young children learning to read, like individual words being highlighted as they’re read, and zooming up when touched.

The app costs £1.99 and runs across iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. And if you’re looking for a good introduction to previous apps in the series, try the Dr. Seuss Beginner Book Collection #1 and Dr. Seuss Beginner Book Collection #2, which each bundle five of the most famous books into a single app.
