Disney has been reinventing some of the characters from Peter Pan recently in its Jake and the Never Land Pirates cartoon. Now there’s an app for them.
Jake’s Never Land Shapes and Patterns was released this week for iPhone and iPad, with a learning-through-play focus through its shape and pattern-tracing mini-games.
There’s a story too: Jake, Izzy and Cubby going hunting for treasure with a firefly named Brightly, and trying to beat Captain Hook to the loot. There are three mini-games to play: Shadow Puppets involves dragging and dropping matching shapes; Rolling Hills makes a path for Jake and co by completing patterns; and Lightning Bugs, which is more shape-tracing in a treasure cave.
Kids earn virtual doubloons in the games that they can spend on piratical clothes for their characters – and it is all virtual: no in-app purchases are used here – record piratey phrases and get the characters to dance to music. Disney says character voices from the cartoon are used, so it should all sound familiar to young fans.
Jake’s Never Land Shapes and Patterns costs £2.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
