Gus on the Go teaches kids Spanish through stories

Gus? He’s a “language-loving owl” who has starred in a number of foreign-languages apps for children. His latest is Learn Spanish with Stories by Gus on the Go.

It aims to go beyond pure vocabulary and grammar lessons, teaching children Spanish skills through fairytales including The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

“This app will you take you from single vocabulary words to basic grammar and short sentences,” explains its App Store listing.

“Start off with animations that teach vocabulary and build your way up to short sentences. Once your children have finished the interactive lesson and completed the story, they can play mini games that make learning fun and exciting.”

It’s been designed for children to make sense of the stories however they like: for example, tapping on the text to play individual words.

The app is “freemium”, which means it’s free to try, but uses in-app purchases to make its money. Here, that means buying “story packs” for £1.49 each – a process that is under the control of parents.

Learn Spanish with Stories by Gus on the Go is a free download for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
