Version 3.8.3 · · 581.6 MB

Do you want to control your Yamaha digital piano from a computer rather than fumbling with a phone? Smart Pianist is a companion app that turns your device into a graphical interface for your Yamaha piano, letting you manage voices, settings, and song playback without leaving your desk. On a PC, you gain a larger workspace to navigate menus, access practice tools, and load your own sheet music and songs: all while keeping your piano setup visible beside your workspace.
Smart Pianist connects your Yamaha digital piano to a computer, centralizing control and learning in one place. The app works best with Clavinova CSP series pianos but supports other Yamaha models, and running it on a desktop gives you room to multitask: read notation on one side of the screen while adjusting tempo or instrument voices on the other without constantly switching windows, unlike the virtual keyboard approach, which keeps everything on one surface.
Core Features at Your Fingertips
Smart Pianist on PC version streamlines how you interact with your piano through these core capabilities:
- Access and adjust instrument voices and sound settings from your computer
- Play back hundreds of built-in MIDI songs and load your own audio or sheet music files
- Practice along with songs while the app displays synchronized notation
- Use guide mode with visual feedback to support fast piano learning
- Apply tempo control, A-B repeat, and part muting during practice sessions
- Purchase additional song bundles through Yamaha MusicSoft for expanded library
Audio to Score: Exclusive to CSP Models
If you own a Clavinova CSP-series piano, the Audio to Score function sets this app apart. Feed it a song from your music collection, and it automatically generates a piano accompaniment score: no manual transcription needed. This feature works only when connected to a compatible CSP model, making it worth verifying your piano's model before relying on it.
Practice Tools Built Deeper Than You'd Expect
The app houses serious practice functionality. A-B repeat for looping difficult sections, guide mode with illuminated notes, and support for mute individual parts giving you the ability to focus on one hand or voice at a time. These tools exist but require navigating multiple menu layers to find them, which can frustrate users expecting them front and center on the PC interface.
Loading Your Own Material
Beyond preset songs, Smart Pianist lets you load your own sheet music and audio files into the app for playback and practice. This flexibility means you're not locked into the built-in library, though difficulty ratings for purchasable song bundles can be inconsistent or hard to locate before you buy, sometimes leading to frustration if the material turns out beyond your current level.
Connecting a Piano to Your PC
Connection reliability varies depending on your piano model and your device. Some users report smooth wireless or USB setup, while others encounter compatibility issues even with officially supported models, particularly on Android systems. Install Smart Pianist on PC and verify your specific piano's connection method beforehand, as some models may require additional cables not included with the instrument.

FAQ
Which Yamaha pianos work with Smart Pianist?
The app is fully compatible with Clavinova CSP-150/170 models and supports P-125 and other instruments, though Yamaha's compatibility list continues to expand. Always check Yamaha's official compatibility page before installing to confirm your specific model is supported.
Can I use Smart Pianist on both my phone and PC?
Yes, you can install the app on multiple devices, but connection behavior and feature availability may differ. Some features (like the Audio to Score function) remain exclusive to CSP pianos regardless of device.
Do I need to keep the piano connected to use the app?
Most features require an active connection to your piano, either via USB or Bluetooth depending on your model. Settings you adjust through the app are stored on the piano, not the device itself.
What happens if my piano model isn't listed as compatible?
Yamaha advises testing compatibility before expecting full functionality. While untested devices may partially work, Yamaha provides no guarantee of proper operation and accepts no responsibility for issues that arise.
Are there additional costs beyond the app itself?
The app is free, but expanded song libraries cost extra: typically around $20 for a bundle. Purchase carefully, as difficulty levels aren't always clear upfront.
Why can't I see certain buttons or settings in the app?
Important practice tools like A-B repeat and part muting are buried several taps deep in the menu structure rather than visible on the main screen, requiring navigation to access during practice sessions.
