Back in 2011, Swedish developer Wombi Apps launched a fun educational app called Color Monster, featuring a friendly beast teaching children their colours. Now, in 2013, he’s got some friends.
Wombi has launched three new apps in the series: Shape Monster, Number Monster and Letter Monster. You can probably tell what they’re each teaching from the titles.
Shape Monster is a chef, who tells children what shape foodstuffs he wants them to pass him from the bottom of the screen. Circles, diamonds and even hexagons are among the tasty treats. It’s currently free for iPhone and iPad, and free for Android.
Number Monster, meanwhile, is a “three-eyed scientist” who teaches the numbers 1 to 20 – again, asking your children to hand her some items (in this case mushrooms with numbers on) so she can do her experiment. It costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad, and £2.79 for Android.
Letter Monster, finally, is a sea beast, complete with his own sailor’s hat (well, I say ‘his own’ – it’s probably best not to ask how he got it). In this case, he tells kids what letters he wants, including lower and upper-case ones. It’s £1.99 for iPhone and iPad, and £2.79 for Android.
