We went to see Despicable Me 2 in the cinema last weekend. Marvellous. And it seems plenty of young fans are playing its official mobile game too.
Despicable Me: Minion Rush came out just over a month ago for iPhone, iPad and Android, but it’s already been downloaded more than 50m times according to its publisher Gameloft.
That’s providing them with plenty of reasons to keep the game fresh. The iOS version has just been updated with some new features based on the film, including a new environment – El Macho’s Lair, stuffed with purple Evil Minions – new costumes for the good minions, and more than 150 new missions and achievements to unlock.
If you’ve not played the game yet, it’s an “endless runner” game a bit like Temple Run, where your minion (the comical yellow characters from the Despicable Me films) runs, jumps and slides past obstacles, collecting bananas as they go.
As we noted at the time, the game is free to play but uses in-app purchases: you can pay between £1.49 and £34.99 for virtual tokens, which can then be used to buy costumes and power-ups. So make sure your in-app purchase restrictions are set before handing your device over to your child.
Despicable Me: Minion Rush is a free download for iPhone and iPad, and also a free download for Android. The latter version will be getting the new features soon, according to Gameloft.

My 8 year old niece is crazy about this game and she have collected almost 100 thousand bananas, she also defeated El Macho which is basically the same as defeating Vector and that girl who I forgot the name.
The only thing I don’t like about the game is the in-app purchases - they are not cheap and I think unnecessary since this is a game for kids, yes they need to somehow get revenue but the prices are too high.
However, there are actually achievement and codes you can use for free tokens and multipliers, check them here: http://www.cheatmasters.com/blog/2013/08/02/despicable-me-minion-rush-unlock-codes-and-achievements-guide/
