Skoo Crew makes scooters and maths a fun blend

We’ll be honest: we’ve been meaning to write about Skoo Crew for a while, but it’s one of the apps that fell between the cracks of our sometimes-disorganised writing schedule.

That’s a shame, because it’s a very good attempt to blend maths and gameplay for children in a way where the two go naturally together, rather than feel awkward.

It’s all about scootering, too: the Skoo Crew are the characters in the game who scoot their way through three colourful lands while avoiding obstacles. Meanwhile, your children solve sums to earn power-ups.

“Players scoot through Quirksville, Mazona Jungle and Sweet Metropolis avoiding cars, monkeys, bouncing sweets and more,” explains its app store listing.

“Beat the clock and collect skoobandz along the way to up your score and unlock the next level. Be sure to look out for gold skoobandz for extra points.”

The maths element has three difficulty levels and involves several skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

If you’re looking for a way for your children to practise their maths in a way that doesn’t feel dry, Skoo Crew is well worth a look, like other recent maths apps we’ve enjoyed like Jump! and Fiete Math.

Skoo Crew costs £0.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and £0.99 for Android from the Google Play store.
