Parents, if your fairytale-loving kids haven’t yet played with Nosy Crow’s appy retellings of Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs, they’re missing out on a treat. And now there’s a third for the list.
Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow has gone live on the App Store this morning for iPhone and iPad, and from our early playtest, it’s a beautiful piece of work. The app tells the familiar tale of Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma and the Big Bad Wolf, but with some interactive twists.
Your kids don’t just read and watch the story play out: they collect objects as Little Red Riding Hood travels through the woods – and which ones they collect decide how she foils the wolf’s dastardly plans at the end of the tale.
“A sort of multimedia, animated 21st Century Choose-Your-Own-Adventure,” as Nosy Crow describes it in the App Store listing. It should ensure your children want to use the app again and again, to see the different endings.
Meanwhile, the artwork and animation is signature Nosy Crow – by which we mean lovingly-crafted – while the voice narration comes from child actors, as in the previous apps. That’s something with big appeal to kids in our experience: while actors and celebrity voice narration can be fun for parents, children’s attention is often held more by the voices of other kids.
There’s interactivity, use of the front-facing camera and lots of other little touches that make this a really good showcase for your iPhone or iPad. We’ll be publishing a full review later today, but suffice to say we’re impressed.
Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow costs £2.99 on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
