Blue Bernard lives on a pink planet but has a green friend

A strange headline, perhaps, but one that accurately describes the story in Blue Bernard, the latest app from developer Square Igloo.

It’s a follow-up to Zoe’s Green Planet, their eco-conscious storybook-app that came out earlier this year. And in fact, Zoe from that story makes a prominent appearance in the new app, which tells the story of Bernard:

“Bernard, a little blue boy, feels very lonely on the pink planet, where absolutely everything is pink: the trees, the houses and even the people! Fortunately, meeting Zoe, the little girl from the green planet, will help him accept his differences and make him want to come out of his shell.”

Square Igloo says the aim of the app is to explore “themes of diversity and relationships” in a thought-provoking (but still entertaining for kids) way. The story is complemented by five mini-games: a fishing party, a maze, getting dressed, making a landscape and repairing a spaceship.

We like the paper mâché-style graphics, which are showcased across the app’s 16 interactive pages. Voice narration is also provided in English and French.

Blue Bernard costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and £1.99 for Android on the Google Play store. Here’s a video demo:
