We’ve written about several apps by eco-minded Swedish developer Gro Play in the last year, including Gro Memo, Gro Book and Gro Recycling. Now there’s another lovely-looking one: Gro Garden.
Released this week for iPhone and iPad, it’s hoping to teach children about organic gardening and sustainable farming, but in a fun, engaging way rather than a dry, po-faced way.
How? With the help of some colourful characters: Connie the Compost and her food-scrap-munching friends the micro organisms. “When you feed Connie and her friends, magic things start to happen. They start producing nutritious soil that makes your crops grow faster and taste better,” explains its App Store listing.
“So after harvesting your tasty vegetables you can treat Banja the rabbit and all the other animals in the cottage. Along the way your Item Collection will also grow with cool items, good food, and badges to reward your progress.”
Can Gro Garden achieve the impossible and get our two sons eating their carrots and broccoli, let alone growing it? Well, we’ll see. But as an introduction to sustainability, this educational game looks marvellous.
Gro Garden costs £0.69 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
