Are your children fans of Poppy Cat? The character has become well known through books, and also an animated TV series. Now she’s the star of a brand new app too.

Poppy Cat and the Bubble Volcano is the work of StoryToys: a collection of mini-games and interactive fun released for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

It’s described as a “3D pop-up activity app”, using the technology that we’ve seen in previous StoryToys apps, particularly its collection of fairytales.

The way it works here is what looks like a book, with each page of text followed by a pop-up scene with something to do. One sees Poppy and her friends leaping up and down to pop bubbles, while another involves steering a submarine along popping bubbles to spot sea creatures.

There’s also a maze, a jigsaw puzzle and a seahorse party to explore, among the eight scenes on offer. Voice narration comes from the actual actors from the TV show from both the UK and US, too.

The late author Lara Jones’ Poppy Cat books have apparently sold more than 2.5m copies, so there’s a big audience out there for this app, which is enjoyable and fun for young fans.
