Pants ahoy for the latest Shaun the Sheep mobile game

We have to hand it to Aardman Animations: the company certainly knows how to start an App Store listing with a bang.

“Ever wondered what it would be like to fling a sheep out of a HUGE pair of underpants?” asks the intro to Sheep Stack, the company’s latest game based on its popular TV show Shaun the Sheep. “Of course you have!”

Well, we have now. Sheep Stack is an arcade game that sees you launching sheep from a “pair of massive pants” to make wobbly towers, and reach doughnuts.

It’s a physics-based game, then: it’s not the same as Angry Birds, but if your children enjoy that kind of game, they may well like this too.

There are 60 levels to play through, with all manner of obstacles placed in the sheep’s path: “precarious platforms, swinging see-saws, tumbling tyres and whizzing water-wheels” among others.

That’s fun enough, but there’s an interesting twist: Aardman is planning to get young Shaun the Sheep fans to design their own levels for the game, with the best ones being put in future updates of the game.

“Obviously we hope people will play the game, but even more so we hope they’ll take part in the competition, as any opportunity to inspire young minds to have a go is key to unlocking their own passions,” said Aardman’s Dan Efergan, as the game was released on Friday.

There’s a downloadable PDF design template for children to use, and you can then email their efforts to [email protected] to see how they (pun intended) stand up.

This is part of wider efforts by Aardman to get kids creating as well as playing: earlier this year, it launched a website called Shaun’s Game Academy which aims to get children to make their own games based on Shaun and friends, using programming tool Scratch.

Sheep Stack costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store, and £1.99 for Android from the Google Play store.
