I met Cookie Monster earlier this year, at a television industry conference. It was probably the most excited I’ve been to meet a celebrity since Grumpy Cat. Yes, I don’t get out much.

Sadly, Cookie Monster isn’t the hero of the latest app from Sesame Street, but another of its hugely popular characters does star: Elmo. The app, released by publisher StoryToys, is called Elmo Loves You!.

Like previous apps from that company, this is a pop-up storybook, taking its cues from pop-up books in the real world, but adding plenty of animation and interactivity.

There are 15 interactive scenes for children to read through, with voice narration to help them follow the story. And, marvellously, it uses the real voices of characters including Elmo and - EXCITABLE PARENT KLAXON – Cookie Monster and Count von Count.

Meanwhile, the app shows parents reading tips and suggests Sesame Street videos to watch on their device when the app is done. Elmo Loves You! costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
