Famous kids’ comic The Beano has been reinventing itself for a new, more digital generation in recent times, and that has included a series of apps.
The latest is Where’s Dennis? (and Gnasher!) which takes its cues from another familiar children’s brand: Where’s Wally? Or, if you’re in the US, Where’s Waldo. You know, that guy who hides in massive groups of cartoon people.
Where’s Dennis? is an iPad app published by Penguin Books, and adapts the idea for Beano characters. “From Lord Snooty’s castle to the Bash Street dinner hall, these jam-packed scenes are filled with classic Beano faves including Roger the Dodger, Minnie the Minx, Calamity James and Bananaman,” explains its App Store listing.
“Search for Dennis on your own, or take on a fellow Menace (or Softy!) in two-player head-to-head mode.”
Although note: you’re not just looking for Dennis and his toothy pooch. There are more than 50 things to find in each scene, making this more like the hidden-object games that have proven quite popular with adults in recent years.
As children work their way through the game, they’ll collect badges marking their progress. It also works with Apple’s Game Center service to compare scores against other players.
Where’s Dennis? (and Gnasher!) is a free download for iPad from Apple’s App Store.
