Karaoke kid-apps for Twinkle Twinkle and Old MacDonald

Kids love to sing songs, and adults love to hear them do it, bar the odd hungover morning when the sound of your toddler belting out Jingle Bells is not what the doctor ordered. Now there’s a new series of apps that aim to turn popular nursery rhymes into karaoke for kids.

They’re called Nursery Rhyme Karaoke, and two are available so far: Twinkle Twinkle and Old MacDonald. The idea: sing along to the songs, while tapping on the farm / sky scenes to find interactive elements. Oh, and you can record your singing to play back to yourselves too.

Both apps look beautiful, with brightly-coloured scenes and characters, and a style all of their own. The attention to detail perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise, since the company behind the apps - Dot To Dot Productions - made its name in the TV industry. Its founder devised CBeebies shows Big Cook Little Cook and Get Squiggling, while its head of development has worked on Kerwhizz, Space Pirates and Zingzillas.

People like this turning their hand to apps for children as well as TV shows? It’s another sign of the creativity pouring into kid-apps in 2011. Both Nursery Rhyme Karaoke apps cost 69p at the time of writing, but that’s an introductory offer, so get in quick. We think this series has a bright future.
