Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler’s Pip and Posy get their own app

Children around the world know illustrator Axel Scheffler for his work on The Gruffalo. Well, there are no Gruffalo apps (yet), but one of his Pip and Posy books have been turned into an iOS app by one of our favourite developers, Nosy Crow.

The app is Pip and Posy: Fun and Games, and rather than being based on one particular book, it’s a collection of mini-games amd activities set in the Pip and Posy world, aimed at kids aged two and up.

That means colouring scenes, digital jigsaws, spot-the-difference puzzles, matching pairs and a mirror feature to make faces using your iPhone or iPad’s front-facing camera.

“This app doesn’t compete with the books, and, unlike other Nosy Crow apps, it’s not a story book app. Instead, it’s a collection of interactive activities that will be fun for the fans of the series and, we hope, will introduce others to the books and the characters,” says Scheffler.

Pip and Posy: Fun and Games costs 69p for its first week on the App Store, and will go up to £2.99 after that, so you may wish to get in quick. Nosy Crow is also working on a separate book-app with Scheffler called Animal SnApp, which is due out in May.

Here’s a video showing the app in action:
