The title may be a mouthful, but Morton Subotnick’s Pitch Painter is one of the most exciting musical apps for children that we’ve seen on the iPad so far.
It’s the work of musician and developer Morton Subotnick, who some parents may know from the Making Music series of CD-ROMs. Pitch Painter brings that to Apple’s tablet as a “musical finger painting app”.
It’s aimed at 3-5 year-olds, who get to choose instrumental sounds from four regions of the world and then paint them onto the iPad’s touchscreen to hear the music, with simple controls to edit their work, and play it in different configurations.
I’ll be honest, I want a good go on this myself, let alone the kids. Morton Subotnick’s Pitch Painter costs £1.99 on the App Store. Here’s a video demo:
