One of our favourite iPad book-apps of all-time is The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Released in May 2011 by Moonbot Studios, it was enchanting animated storytelling for your tablet. The company went on to win an Oscar for the short-film version.
Now Moonbot is trying something different. The company’s new app is called IMAG•N•O•TRON (or, to give it its full name, IMAG•N•O•TRON: ‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore’ Edition). It brings augmented reality technology to the Morris Lessmore printed book.
Yes, you’ll need to buy that book (just over a tenner on Amazon) before you can use the app. Then you point your iPhone or iPad at its pages to see them come to life with animation and interactivity.
“Get swept up in a storm! Transport to another world! Play music! Fly!!! It’s a wonder of the ages!” promises its App Store listing. “Moonbot’s IMAG•N•O•TRON… Now those books really can fly!”
The app costs 69p, and presumably packs plenty of stuff in given its 301.9MB download size. Given Moonbot’s track record, it should be a treat.
