Back in March this year, we loved the idea of Chess Academy for Kids, an app that aimed to teach children how to play chess without leaving them feeling frustrated.

Now there’s a new version, Chess Academy for Kids FREE, which… Well, you can probably guess the main change. It’s a free version offering 30 tutorials as a taster for the full version, which has 140.

The idea here is that your children learn the basic movements of chess pieces for free, and if they get on well with it, you can pay £2.99 for the separate paid version.

Developer Next is Great suggests that eight year-olds and upwards can use the app themselves, while younger children (five and up) can have fun with the help of an adult.

Chess Academy for Kids FREE is available as a universal app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
