We’ve got two sons, so Fancy Nancy is new to us*, but our ninja Googling skills tell us it’s a very popular series of children’s books. They’ve already spawned two apps – Fancy Nancy Dress Up and Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire.
Now there’s a third, and it sounds very innovative. Fancy Nancy Ballet School has just been released for iPhone and iPad, and as its name implies, is focused on tutu-based prancing and dancing.
Here’s the thing: this isn’t just a story. In fact, it’s a mini ballet-manual. “Nancy will teach you ballet steps and help you choreograph (that’s fancy for create) your very own ballet,” explains its App Store listing.
“That means watching cartoon Nancy perform 11 ballet positions and steps, then stringing them together into a routine that your children can copy in the real world. And then the clever bit: you can record video of them dancing, and then play it back with cartoon Nancy joining in the fun.
The results can be saved and shared, and there are various music tracks to dance along to. Developer Bean Creative says the app is already updated for Apple’s latest iOS 6 software and iPhone 5 handset, too.
Anyway, the video aspect is a clever idea, so we think Fancy Nancy Ballet School will be encouraging plenty of children to cut some rug in their homes.
The app costs £1.49 on the App Store, and is universal for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch while the two previous Fancy Nancy apps are both on sale to celebrate its launch. Here’s a demo video of the new app:
*By the way, we’re not saying boys shouldn’t read the Fancy Nancy books, play with this app or do ballet, obviously. It’s just that Fancy Nancy has yet to make her way into our household via the traditional means of ‘Nanny coming to visit with a big bag of new books’…
