Disney launches second-screen app for Cinderella Diamond Edition film

Disney is about to re-release one of its most famous animated films, Cinderella, as a ‘Diamond Edition’ set of Blu-ray discs. Now there’s an app for that, designed for children and adults alike.

It’s got a long title: Disney Second Screen Personalized Digital Storybook: Bibbidi-Bobbidi-You. Named, of course, after one of the songs from the original film. The ‘second screen’ bit of the title means the app is designed to be used while watching the movie.

“Sync the Disney Second Screen Storybook to the Cinderella Diamond Edition Blu-ray™ or iTunes extra for a whole new way to experience the classic story,” explains its App Store listing. “Fairy Godmother will help you and Cinderella along on your journey.”

The App Store screenshots don’t give much away – just stills of the film, basically – and we haven’t got a copy of the movie’s new version yet so can’t try it out.

But the app is free, so it will be an obvious download for parents buying the film for their children. It’s available as a single universal version for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The downside for us Brits: it appears to be US-only for now.
