Off to Bed! storybook-app sleepwalks its way onto iPad

Lots of children’s books end with the character(s) going to bed. We’re assuming they’re aiming to help parents persuade their own kids to close their eyes after being read to at bedtime.

(It’s not working very well with our two. They may be immune to storytelling suggestions.)

Anyway, some apps are onto this idea too, including one of our all-time favourites Nighty Night. Here’s a new one though: Off to Bed! for iPad, from Spanish firm Dada Company.

Here, you’re actually putting the story’s sleepy character to bed, with marvellous illustrations and a lullabye-esque soundtrack. Animations and interactivity chip in to try to subtly reinforce the idea of pre-sleep rituals, thankfully missing out the “running around screaming then demanding biscuits” zone that kicks in around 6.45pm in our household!

Anyway, Off to Bed looks lovely. It’s just come out for iPad, and costs £1.99 on the App Store, joining the existing iPhone version that’s been out for just over a year, and which costs 69p.
