Musician Alicia Keys is getting into the digital storytelling game, courtesy of a new iOS app called The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee, which was released today on the App Store.
It’s described as “an immersive storytelling experience that includes exclusive, original music from Alicia Keys”, which we think will appeal to children as well as fans of the star.
“Explore a richly detailed 3D room; listen to music written and performed by Alicia Keys within the Music Box; play your own songs on the virtual piano; answer 365 Daily Challenges in a private journal; draw masterpieces using a wide selection of colors and brushes in the virtual journal; and explore an exciting new world in the adventures of Blue Moon,” explains its App Store listing.
Blue Moon is actually just the first in a planned series of “episodically released story-packs” for the app, focusing on an eight year-old girl called LeeLee and her grandmother Mama Mae.
The app offers more than 15 minutes of animation, lots of interactivity and – for now – a couple of songs written by Keys, one of which she performs herself. There are also badges for in-app achievements, and the promise of more story packs and music to come, paid for using in-app purchases.
The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee costs £2.49 on the App Store, and runs on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
