Outfit7 removing £4-a-week subscription ad from Talking Friends Cartoons

This is good news. Last night we reported on the worrying appearance of an ad for a £4-a-week mobile-content subscription service in Outfit7’s Talking Friends Cartoons app. Today, the company says the ad has been removed.

“We have a strict policy in place regarding what advertisements are displayed within our apps and take this issue very seriously,” says CEO Samo Login in a statement sent to Apps Playground.

“The Talking Friends Cartoons App was published during the evening of Wednesday 13th February by way of a soft launch – a period of time where we are able to test the app in a live environment but prior to promotion of the app itself. Unfortunately due to a technical glitch within one of our ad networks, this advert was displayed against our advertising policy. The issue was quickly identified and rectified within 12 hours of the app being published.”

That’s good to hear – at the time of writing, a different ad, for the Candy Crush Saga game, is appearing in our iPhone version of Talking Friends Cartoons.

The episode should be a lesson to all children’s app publishers putting adverts in their apps, though – it’s really important to keep tabs on what ads may be appearing. We checked out Google’s settings for its mobile advertising network, and it has a set of ad filters to ensure developers’ apps “display ads that are rated as age appropriate”.
