Petting Zoo app entertains with animated animal antics

We love us a spot of alliteration, and Petting Zoo by Christoph Niemann is fun enough to deserve it.

Released in mid-February (sorry, we’re a bit late on this one), it’s the work of an author and illustrator (yes, Christoph) who’s created 21 hand-drawn animals, who are beautifully animated inside his app.

“What would an elephant in your bathroom do? Can a dog breakdance?” wonders the App Store listing, which is a good hint at the app’s sense of fun and mischief.

It’s playful and very tactile: we’ve found ourselves sneaking goes when the children are nowhere in sight, just for the entertainment value.

We love especially the smooth transitions between each animal, as their lines wibble, swoop and merge into one another, and the sounds as you swipe each animal in different directions to make things happen.

It’s a real work of craft. Petting Zoo by Christoph Niemann costs £1.49 on the App Store, and runs on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
