A ‘cleaner, safer’ iPad web-browser app for kids from… Cif?

We thought Play Fanta: Saving the Source would be the most surprising children’s app from a big brand we’d see this week. But no. Meet Cif The Web.

It’s an iPad web-browser app made by Cif. Yes, as in the brand that makes cleaning products for your home. In fact, that’s the angle they’re taking with the app.

“You already know you can rely on Cif to clean your home. Well now Cif cleans the internet too. Cif The Web is a browser that lets you and your family to surf the internet in complete safety,” explains its App Store listing.

“We’ve removed all traces of grime, muck and dirt from the web, leaving a cleaner, safer internet. Sites you wouldn’t want your kids to see are blocked and other sites that might contain ‘robust language’ have been given a good going over with Cif, so all the rude words have been scrubbed out and replaced with squeaky clean ones.”

And this might make you laugh, but there’s clearly been a lot of thought put in to the app’s features: a single text-box for typing in searches, as well as buttons for popular sites like Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network, CBeebies, Lego, Thomas & Friends and Sesame Street.

“No complicated settings to fiddle with and no passwords to remember - just the web, as clean and safe as you’d expect from Cif,” as they put it. Count us intrigued, if still a bit puzzled.

Cif The Web is a free download from the App Store for iPad.
