We’ve not seen short film A Cautionary Tail, but it looks beautiful. It’s an Australian animated film starring the voices of Cate Blanchett, David Wenham and Barry Otto that’s been winning high praise at film festivals around the world this year.
Now it’s got an app. A Cautionary Tail for iPad was released this week on the App Store, adding interactivity to the film’s characterful 3D animation. It’s more a book-app than a film on iPad, with a choice of Read to Me and Read by Myself modes – the narration comes from Wenham himself.
Kids can also get interactive: “Spin the Gameshow Wheel, tap to play shadow puppets, finger paint a mural, tilt the iPad to drive the family car, and more,” according to the App Store listing.
The app also includes a bonus section looking at the making of the film. It looks very good indeed.
A Cautionary Tail for iPad costs £2.99 on the App Store, and is iPad-only for now. Here’s the film’s trailer so you can get a taste:
