WOWDAD Maps app helps dads find child-friendly places in the UK

Last year, we wrote about an app called WOWMUM that aimed to help mums find child-friendly places around the UK. “Our only quibble is the ‘mum’ branding, given that plenty of dads find themselves stranded in search of these places too,” we wrote at the time.

Happily, the developers of the app agreed. Today they’ve launched WOWDAD, which is basically a rebadged version of the previous app for fathers with info on more than 13,000 places around the country.

“Doesn’t matter if you are looking for baby changing facilities, in hunt of children’s clothing, searching for eateries that are buggy-friendly, or finding a play area that is soft-padded for your toddler,” explains its App Store listing. “Get the detailed information you need with only one look, and find the most suitable locations and activities when you are out with your little ones.”

The app includes reviews and ratings, and a filter so you can specify the features you need (for example, in a restaurant’s case, whether it is buggy-friendly, provides toys and crayons, has high chairs and/or bottle-warming options).

You can also add your own places (or WOWSpots in the app’s lingo) to tip other dads off to the good places in your neighbourhood. Its makers tell us that they’re planning to put in some dad-specific features in a future update, such as information on whether baby-changing facilities are located outside the ladies’ loos.

WOWDAD is a free download from the App Store, for iPhone and iPod touch.
