A true story: this weekend, my six year-old bought ME some ‘motivation stickers’ to encourage me to behave well. I ended Saturday plastered with stickers praising my good reading, great maths and good behaviour at lunchtime. Hmm.
Reward systems are supposed to work the other way around, of course. Monsta Points Reward System is the latest attempt at creating a “digital reward chart” as an iPad app.
The idea: you set agreed goals and rewards for things your children can do around the house, then use the app to track how well the chores are being performed. The idea is that kids can earn real-world rewards, but also digital ones – such as new apps and games.
This is all handled through the app’s “Monsta Points” system, with colour provided by the inclusion of virtual monsters (well, “monstas”) for children to choose and customise to represent themselves.
It’s a fun interactive spin on reward charts, and we know a fair few parents already using apps and games as rewards for their children’s good behaviour, so this taps into that trend neatly.
