A couple of years ago, we got very excited about a children’s app called Doodlecast by developer Zinc Roe. It got kids to draw pictures on an iPhone or iPad touchscreen while talking, then turned this into a shareable video.
Since then, Zinc Roe got bought by another children’s apps firm, Toca Boca, and was renamed as Sago Sago. Now it’s releasing a revamped version of Doodlecast called Sago Mini Doodlecast.
Aimed at 2-6 year-olds, it’s still about drawing, speaking and combining the two in videos. However, this time round it comes with 30 “drawing prompts” – questions to spark kids’ imagination when deciding what they’re going to create.
“Sago Mini Doodlecast is a fun creative activity and a valuable teaching aid,” suggests its App Store listing. “It’s a great way for kids to express themselves through art and conversation. Families can use the app for everything from practicing counting and letters to talking about experiences and feelings.”
The videos are automatically saved for later viewing, and can be exported to your device’s Camera Roll – leaving parents in control of how and who to share them with.
Sago Mini Doodlecast costs 69p for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store. Here’s a video showing how it works:
