We know Famigo for its Kid Lock Android app, which puts parental restrictions on a device when children are using it, while recommending apps they might like. Now there’s a Famigo iPhone app too.
It’s a bit different though. On iPhone, the promise is of “100’s of premium, educational, and entertaining children’s videos” from series including The Cat in the Hat, Pocoyo, The Wiggles and Sid the Science Kid.
While the app is free to download, you need a paid subscription from Famigo’s website to access the premium shows. That costs $7.99 a month in the US, which works out to around £5.21 here in the UK.
There’s another feature in the iPhone app which we haven’t seen before: “A unique kid-friendly profile that can block App Store purchases and the Safari Web browser”. Again, this is for subscribers only.
We’re guessing this uses the little-known (to parents, anyway) Profiles feature in Apple’s iOS software – it can be found within the Settings app under the General menu. An intriguing approach to parental restrictions, although we’ve not tried it yet to see how it works.
While we do, Famigo is a free download for iPhone from Apple’s App Store. If you’ve used it, let us know your experiences by posting a comment.
