Weirdwood Manor children’s book-app seeks $75k on Kickstarter

Heard of Kickstarter? It’s a ‘crowdfunding’ website where people working on interesting creative projects try to raise money from other people (the ‘crowd’) to make them happen.

We’ve seen a growing number of interesting children’s apps start as Kickstarter projects (Dandelion, My Beastly ABCs and Geoff and his Two Dads in… Tomato Trouble for example, with Looksi Pups still raising money).

The latest for the list really does look nice: The Incredible Tales of Weirdwood Manor. Its developer, All Play, No Work, is trying to raise $75,000 to make a quirky and characterful storytelling app for iPad.

The main story sees heroes Oliver, Celia and Eugene trying to “uncover a dark and deadly secret that has been haunting the gloomy hallways of Weirdwood Manor for decades”, with games, puzzles and the option for children to record their own voice narration along the way.

But there’ll also be a Story Builder mode for kids to create their own stories, unlocking props and characters as they read the main storyline. There are lots more details on the project’s Kickstarter page, where you can pledge between $10 and $7,500 with varying rewards.

With 15 days to go, though, the project only has $12,903 so far, so it could do with more backing. We think it looks potentially fantastic, so are keeping our fingers crossed (and have put our money where our mouth is by backing it too).

Here’s the pitch video for more details:
