We’ve enjoyed following the children’s apps of developer Curious Hat, with the likes of PHLIP, Eye Paint Animals and Eye Paint Alphabet making innovative use of iOS devices’ cameras.
Their new release is different, but very interesting. It’s called InfiniScroll, and is described by the company as an “open-ended storytelling tool” that “breaks the rules of linear storytelling”.
It’s designed to be used by parents and children together, although once you’ve played with it for a while, we daresay kids will also be able to handle it themselves.
The app works by scrolling down a collection of characterful drawings, with children ‘locking’ the ones that they like, then recording their own voice for each to tell a story, while tapping on them to hear other sounds.
The key idea is that the drawings are different each time, sparking ideas for new stories. The tales can then be saved as pictures and videos to your device’s Camera Roll, and shared from there.
It’s quirky and fun, and could be a breath of fresh air for kids with creative minds – or those who need a little extra help sparking their storytelling instincts.
InfiniScroll costs £2.49 for iPhone and iPad from Apple’s App Store.
