Children don’t know the meaning of the phrase ‘creative block’ – once they start painting, drawing and sticking, you can expect a constant flow of new artworks. And your fridge door is only so big…
A number of app developers are trying to provide a solution, from FamJam and Art My Kid Made (which we wrote about) to ArtKive (which we meant to write about but didn’t quite get round to, which is no reflection on its quality).
Now there’s another for the list: Canvsly, which is pitched as “a private platform to help you capture, organize, share your child’s precious artwork, so you can cherish them anytime, anywhere forever”.
The idea is that you use your iPhone’s camera to capture the artworks, then organise them into albums on your device, and share them with whoever you like – including private groups of family members and friends, but also the wider world (Facebook and Twitter) when you’re in a ‘my child is the next Great Artist’ bragging mood.
One of the twists here is that you can create “keepsakes and gifts” from the artworks using an in-app shop run by Fujifilm, with magnets, mousepads, mugs, photo puzzles and other items available.
The downside (for us Brits) is that for now, gifts only ship to Unites States addresses – the Canvsly website tells non-Americans to email the company for help on international shipping. We’d love a British version, but for now this isn’t for us sadly.
Still, if you’re in the US, Canvsly is well worth a look, complete with its promise that as you use the app, you can earn “awesome rewards” with brands like Pepsi, Disney, Amazon, Skittles and American Apparel – although how appealing this is depends on your view of the individual brands.
Canvsly is a free download for iPhone from Apple’s App Store. Here’s a demo video showing how it all works:
