Our four year-old seems to sing all day long whatever he’s doing: he doesn’t need much encouragement! But he does love music apps, with Touch ‘n Sing - Touch and Sing Along Picture Book the latest we’ll be recommending to him.
It’s the work of SumahoMAMA, a Japanese children’s apps developer whose three previous apps have been downloaded more than 1.2m times so far. This one’s aimed at 2-6 year olds, with a mixture of numbers, letters, shapes, colours and – of course – songs.
The app comes with two free songs – The Hokey Pokey and Alphabet Songs – with others available for parents to buy as in-app purchases. 69p gets you songs like Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Wheels on the Bus and London Bridge, but there are also two “Super Value Pack” options, costing £2.99 for six songs.
We like the way Touch ‘n Sing has been designed for a variety of ages: younger children can simply tap along to the songs and sing, but there are alphabet games and lyrics for older kids.
The app is colourful and well designed, with a real sense of fun. It’s also the kind of app we can see being used for rewards by parents: buying a new song for your child every week if they’ve been good, for example.
Touch ‘n Sing is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store. Here’s a video demo:
