Henri Le Worm cooking-for-kids app enlists Simon Pegg and Raymond Blanc

If your children are fussy eaters, one tactic is to get them more involved in cooking meals. A new iPad app called Henri Le Worm could be very helpful on that score.

It’s part storybook and part recipe collection, with some big names involved. Actor Simon Pegg provides the voices for characters including Henri Le Worm, Derek the Ladybird, Sebastian the intelligent Slug and Texas Lou the Spider, while chef Raymond Blanc provides 10 recipes for children to cook.

The app was co-created by Raymond’s son Olivier, working with illustrator Charlotte Salt. It’s aimed at 2-10 year-olds – a very wide spread – with the aim of trying to “get children reconnected with nature & food, not by preaching but by primarily making them laugh”.

Kids will be learning facts about food as well as bugs and insects, singing along to the ‘My Name is Henri Le Worm’ theme tune, and hopefully making some tasty meals with their parents.

It looks great fun, and with noble aims in mind. “With more and more children suffering from weight issues and with the growing sense that many children lack the most basic knowledge of where food comes from and how it can benefit us, now is the perfect time for Henri Le Worm,” as the App Store listing puts it.

Bien sur! Henri Le Worm costs £2.99 / $4.99 for iPad on Apple’s App Store.
