Comic strips are fun, but how about comic strips starring your own children? That’s the inventive idea behind a new app called FriendStrip Kids for iPhone, iPad and Android.
The idea: more than 85 comic strips to choose from, with speech bubbles already written. The twist: your child has to point the device at siblings, friends and/or family members to complete the frame.
“The neighborhood playground will act as crocodile-infested waters while the living room couch transforms into a giant pirate ship,” explains its App Store listing. “Whether your kid is a brave adventurer, a charming princess or a fearless time-traveler, you will be sure to gather plenty of amazing memories.”
It’s clever: the app shows pencil-like drawings for each panel in the comic strips, showing kids what poses they’ll need to pull to complete them – complete with on-screen items (e.g. a pirate’s wheel or Ghostbusters-style proton pack plus ghost) to pretend to use.
FriendStrip Kids Pro costs £1.49 / $2.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and £0.99 for Android on the Google Play store.
Note, there’s also a free version – here for iOS and here for Android – where you pay £2.49 / $3.99 via in-app purchase to unlock the full collection of strips. So that’ll cost more, but gives you a chance to try FriendStrip Kids before you buy.
The app is the work of photo-books maker PhotoInPress, so we’re guessing enabling parents to order printed versions of their kids’ comic creations will be part of the strategy.
