Alongside Moshi Monsters and Club Penguin, Webkinz was one of the first successful online virtual worlds for children, focusing on cutesy virtual pets (and their physical toy versions).
Now there’s a brand new app for that, called simply Webkinz. Described as a “companion app” for the web version, it promises to let children “access your Webkinz World account anywhere from your mobile device so you can feed, dress, and play with your pets”.
Children who are new to Webkinz can also register for it from the app and adopt a free pet, with everyone able to play mini-games and earn the KinzCash virtual currency to spend on items to customise them.
Note, there are in-app purchases here: £0.69 / $0.99 for three spins on the Wheel of Wow mini-game, and £0.69 / $0.99 to unlock the Crafty Canaries mini-game. Other features need a subscription to the Webkinz website to work, too.
Webkinz is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and a free download for Android devices on Google Play.
