DK’s Peekaboo! books get new Read-along Stories iPad app

It’s a busy week for book publisher DK. Having released its first app based on Sophie la girafe, it’s also launched an app based on its Peekaboo! pop-up books.

The app offers a mixture of digital stories and mini-games based on the Peekaboo! books, starting off with three: Things That Go, Playtime and Farm, with more to follow.

“Watch as farm animals, toys, cars and boats are brought to life on the screen. Read along together with the narrator and lift up the flaps to see your toddler’s favourite things appearing on the page,” explains its App Store listing.

“Have fun playing lots of games such as matching pairs and counting. The app allows you to tap on each word on the screen to hear the narrator repeat it, perfect for encouraging early word recognition and memory skills. Or, decide to turn the narrator off and read along with your child.”

As with the Sophie la girafe app, there’s a feature called Family Connect where you can share details of your child or children’s progress through the app with family members, while also uploading photos to create reward certificates.

DK Peekaboo! Read-along Stories is a free download for iPad from Apple’s App Store, with the actual stories sold as £1.99 / $2.99 in-app purchases. DK tells us that the initial three will be joined soon by Woof Woof, Meow, Bedtime, Rainbow and Christmas Peekaboo! stories.
