There are a number of children’s app developers exploring whether you can teach maths through arcade games. eduGame is the latest with Invasion of the Moon Monkeys.

Released for Android this week (it’s been out on iOS for some time already) it’s a retro action game that gets children practising their times tables, between one and 12.

The plot involves, yes, moon monkeys invading the Earth – complete with a space centre called (and this may make you groan) Ape Canaveral. Kids can get their skills up to speed in a practice mode before taking on the full game, which peppers them with multiplication sums.
