BBC Wildlife Bumper Book of Answers goes wild on iPad

Our six year-old is big on wildlife: he reads books, watches TV shows and DVDs, badgers us to go to zoos, and then hits us with dozens of questions about the animals he’s encountered.

It’s safe to say there’s an app for him, in the form of BBC Wildlife Bumper Book of Answers. Launched this week by Immediate Media, it’s based on BBC Wildlife magazine, and promises to be manna from heaven for parents struggling to satisfy their kids’ curiosity about the natural world.

“This fact-packed publication literally brings you the secrets of life. Hundreds of questions about the animal world are tackled by a host of the world’s leading experts,” explains its App Store listing. “Ever wondered why kangaroos hop, how glow-worms glow, or quite why so many people are scared of spiders? Then this is the app for you.”

It’s not specifically a children’s app, but we suspect kids (and their relieved parents) will be among its keenest users. It looks well-designed too: big, bright images rather than just slabs of text.

BBC Wildlife Bumper Book of Answers costs £4.99 for iPad on Apple’s App Store.
