Augmented reality dinosaurs from the BBC. That’s the high-concept pitch we’ve just come up with for the Walking With Dinosaurs: Photo Adventure app. Sounds good, eh?
The app has been launched for iPhone and iPad to promote the Beeb’s new Walking With Dinosaurs 3D movie, and takes the form of “an easy to use app that lets you see incredibly lifelike dinosaurs in your camera, where you can pose them for hilarious pictures with you and your friends”.
Okay, “hilarious” may be pushing it a bit, but this looks fun. You point your device’s camera at someone, complete with virtual dinosaur, and snap the perfect picture before (if you want) sharing it to Facebook or Twitter.
Not specifically a children’s app, we know, but one that we think will find plenty of young fans. An additional feature lets them watch an animated dinosaur roam around your real-world table, providing facts and figures as they go.
The film isn’t out until just before Christmas, but the app is available now. Walking With Dinosaurs: Photo Adventure is a free download for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store.
