Earlier this year we wrote about an iOS app called Kids Learn Mandarin, which aimed to help children take their first steps in learning the Chinese language. Now it’s on Android too.

Published by Fingerprint, it teaches kids how to write, read and say more than 240 Mandarin words, through a mixture of mini-games, exercises and music videos.

The initial free download includes a lesson on numbers with eight games, one video and 20 digital stickers to decorate the in-game playground, which shows children’s progress.

11 more lessons can be bought via in-app purchase. We haven’t tried the Android version yet, but on iOS you can pay £5.49 for the lot, or between £1.49 and £2.99 for combinations of the others, as a guide.

As with other Fingerprint apps, there’s a detailed parents section helping you track your children’s progress, send them “fun and encouraging messages” (in English, we’re guessing) and browse other apps that you and they may like.

Kids Learn Mandarin Beginner is a free download for Android from the Google Play store.
