When the original Quick Maths app came out in 2012, we didn’t spot it. A shame, because it looks very good. Now there’s a sequel called Quick Maths+ from developer Shiny Things.
Well, we say ‘sequel’: this is more of a follow-on app, designed for children who’ve mastered the basic maths skills of the first app, and are ready for something a bit trickier to get their teeth into.
The app is divided into four modes: Solve, Memorise, Compare and Swap. Each focuses on different skills, aimed at children aged 7-11, although we predict a fair few parents will be using it to brush up on their own skills before helping with homework, too.
One aspect that we like is the way it gets children to write their answers on the screen with their finger, making it a neat bit of handwriting practice too. There’s also a good system of stars for rewards, with children unlocking new characters as they progress through the exercises.
Quick Maths+ costs £1.49 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store. Here’s a video demo:
