When we try to wind our children down for bedtime, it usually ends with them running, jumping, shouting and flinging things down the stairs. Such is parenting life.
That said, once they’re in their beds, we’ve always read them bedtime stories. Bedtime apps? Not so much – like many parents, we tend to opt for print rather than screens after 7pm. Goodnight Mo might be the app to change our minds though.
Aimed at children aged between 15 months and 3+ years, it’s the work of StoryToys, whose pop-up apps for fairytales and Chuggington alike we’ve enjoyed a lot. This one’s different: “a magically sleepy and comforting bedtime book” starring a monster named Mo.
“As night falls and the moon rises, a cute little monster gets ready for bed. Beautiful imagery, gently rhyming narration, and soothing music make Mo’s bedtime routine the perfect way to wind down before going to sleep,” explains its App Store listing.
“From the very first yawn, little ones will discover charming surprises in each of the 3D pop-up scenes: they will delight in gently sending various animals to the land of nod, popping bubbles in a bath, brushing Mo’s teeth, and rocking the little monster to sleep.”
It’s part of a line of StoryToys Junior apps for younger children, but uses the same technology as its older siblings, mimicking pop-up books, but with animation and interactivity.
Goodnight Mo costs £1.99 for iPhone and iPad on Apple’s App Store, and we’re told an Android version is coming soon too.

A baby app that is meant to be used before bed? No, than you.
“The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has advised parents — again — to eliminate screen time for children under 2, citing concerns about language delays and disrupted sleep.”
