There are plenty of children out there who love DreamWorks’ Monsters vs Aliens film and its TV spin-offs. They’ll be excited about its new game, B.O.B.’s Super Freaky Job.
Released for iPhone, iPad and Android, it sees kids invited to join Team Monster, guiding the B.O.B. character on a “gravity-defying quest”. That involves rotating the world around him to solve challenges, including getting the better of wormholes, lasers and ejectors.
Why? You’re finding spare parts for Dr Cockroach, who’s building a range of gadgets with them. Rooms are rotated by sliding a finger on the screen, with B.O.B. sliding according to gravity, collecting rubbish and gelatin gloops as he goes.
We’ve been playing it this morning, and it’s good fun: the game awards stars according to how well each level is completed, based on how much is collected, how quickly it’s completed, and whether specific mini-challenges (for example: ‘do not turn the room clockwise’) are hit.
B.O.B.’s Super Freaky Job is a free download for iPhone and iPad, and a free download for Android, but it does use in-app purchases. An in-app store sells three power-ups: a Super Magnet for attracting rubbish and gelatin, a Master Keycard to open coloured doors, and an ‘Unfreeze Thingy’ to replenish B.O.B.’s energy.
They’re sold in 69p packs: for that you get 10 super magnets, five master keycards or three unfreeze thingies, although there are also daily bundle deals – today’s is £1.99 for 30 magnets, five keycards and six thingies for example.
We’re glad the game doesn’t go up to £69.99 for in-app purchases, as we’ve seen some games of this type do. There’s also an age-verification check built in. But as ever, make sure you’re on top of your App Store settings to ensure your children don’t blow your wallet on power-ups!
