Ready, get set, Angry Birds Go! (on 11 December, at least…)

Angry Birds Go

Children and parents may still be working their way through Angry Birds Star Wars II, but now publisher Rovio has announced details of the next Angry Birds game: Angry Birds Go!

Due for release on 11 December, it’s a new frontier for the series. Forget hurling birds at pigs: this time they’ll be racing them in a karting game, like a featherier version of Mario Kart.

(Is ‘featherier’ a word? It is now…)

The game will see the familiar Angry Birds racing downhill in karts, with a variety of special moves and the ability to upgrade the karts. According to the official gameplay trailer (below) it’ll be a free app too, so we’re assuming in-app purchases will be involved.

Also toys. As with Angry Birds Star Wars II, Angry Birds Go! will come with its own range of ‘Telepods’ toys from Hasbro, used to teleport new karts into the game. Expect clothing, accessories and other merchandise too.

You, like us, are probably thinking ‘But hang on, how can an Angry Birds karting game be any good?’, but watch the trailer above: the game is looking pretty good already. We’re looking forward to putting it through its paces.
