Talking Tom Cat returning in My Talking Tom app for kids

Update: My Talking Tom is now available: read our first impressions and get download links.

The Talking Friends apps are huge among children and adults alike, with 1.2bn downloads so far. Now their main star Talking Tom is coming back with a new app.

It’s called My Talking Tom, and developer Outfit7 says it will be out on 14 November for “all major platforms”, which we’re taking to mean iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone.

Whereas previous Talking Friends apps have focused on simple interactions and the ability of their characters to repeat what you say to them in squeaky voices. My Talking Tom takes things on a step or three.

The app will get children to raise Tom from a kitten to an adult cat, customising his appearance and treating him more like a virtual pet. He’ll still talk back, and there’s the promise of as-yet unrevealed new features and gameplay to keep the new app interesting in the longer term.

Outfit7 says that 170m people are playing with Talking Friends apps every month, so the new one is likely to make a splash on the App Stores. We’ll have a review for you on 14 November, but for now, check out the video trailer below:
